(CNN) -- Two Iranian warships entered the Suez Canal on Tuesday on their way to the Mediterranean Sea, Iran's semi-official Fars News Agency reported, citing canal officials. They are the first such ships to sail through the Suez since the Islamic republic's 1979 revolution.
The move, which comes four days after Egypt's post-Hosni Mubarak government gave the green light to the passage, puts Egypt's new military regime in a prickly position with its Israeli neighbor.
